Welcome to Shelter Cove, California ...
From here, you can hike and ride on long trails through the forest and along rivers ... ending up at the ocean. If you can't make the long hike back, there are local services to pick you up.
The most challenging hike is on the ocean front ... 24 miles from Shelter Cove to the mouth of the Mattole River. Did I mention that we have a golf course, too? It surrounds Shelter Cove Airport, where lots of private planes, and skydiver clubs, visit regularly.
Of course, at the Cove, you have the Pacific Ocean in front of you ... Yup, it's cold in the water, but we surf and windsurf, too. Fishing? You betcha! Abalone diving ... yeow!
In 2006, the President of the U.S. signed the bill which created a "wilderness" which includes the King Range and the entire Lost Coast seashore. This means that Shelter Cove, which is NOT included in the Wilderness area, is the last great spot for your oceanfront home, in the State of California. Visit us and see for yourself.
